Non-genealogy Saturday

5 Dec

If last Saturday was Genealogy Saturday then this Saturday was Non-Genealogy Saturday. It wasn’t intentional, but other things just got in the way, at least I hadn’t really planned to do any serious family history otherwise I would have been annoyed.

First on the agenda was collecting a bookcase with my brother and his van. I was very kindly offered a second-hand bookcase, which is a great improvement on my existing bookcases, and I think it means I actually gain a bit of shelf space into the bargain.

Once we had collected the bookcase I spent some time giving it a clean, before starting on the rest of the housework. After a quick bite to eat for lunch, I was again off out with my brother over to Haywards Heath for the monthly postcard fair.

I was really after some more pages for my postcard album as I have about 50 to 60 cards that are waiting to be put away. We didn’t really have long over there, but I managed to find one superb card for my main collection, but very little else caught my eye.

After stopping for some shopping and visiting my godfather on the way home, I was in need of some proper food and drink. Although I am not sure that a bowl of tomato soup and some bread rolls really count as proper food.

Then I spent about an hour and a half in the evening polishing the bookcase. It is now ready to replace the existing bookcase in the hallway, which in turn will replace the small bookcase in the spare bedroom, which will probably be dismantled and stored in the shed. That is probably going to be tomorrow’s job.

Although I was busy today and didn’t really have time to sit down and do any serious family history, when I think about it most of what I did was related in some way to family history. Most of the books that will go on the bookcase are about family or local history and of course at the postcard fair I was looking for places with a family connection. Most of the postcards that need putting in an album are connected in some way to my family history.

So I guess in a way I have been working indirectly on my family tree today.
