Family History Fatigue

I haven’t spent all day working on my family tree but it certainly feels like it. I also did some housework and went walking for a couple of hours, but I am definitely suffering from family history fatigue now.

I have added most of my 3x great grandparents to my family tree now. I am missing just two now (the parents of Emily GREEN) and I still have two 3x great grandmothers whose maiden names I cannot find. So I think I have done pretty well.

I am calling it a night now, I feel physically and mentally drained, and hopefully tomorrow a refreshed pair of eyes will be able to see something I have missed today.

Although I have added the names, there is still a lot more detail to be added, most of the information has come from census returns and the GRO indexes, but for example I haven’t got death dates for most of the individuals and not all the census entries had been added.

So I still have much more work to do before I have a tree fit for printing, but at least I have made a good start. My 4x great grandparents now number 20 out of 64, so still a long way to go there. In total today (and last night) I have added 59 individuals, no wonder I am feeling exhausted!

A challenge for the weekend: update

I made a start last night on adding 3x and 4x great grandparents to my family tree. I’ve only added four individuals so far, but three of those were direct ancestors, so it is off to a good start.

I started with my WALDER ancestors from Bolney, Sussex because I knew they would be quite easy to trace. I hadn’t realised quite how easy!

The 1881 census entry for Bee Houses, Bolney, Sussex was a genealogists dream come true. On census night there were four generations of the family in the house. Talk about making life easy for me!

In complete contrast I can’t find any of my WALDERs in the 1871 census, so that is one I need to make a note of and come back to later when I have more time.

A challenge for the weekend

A while back I promised that I was going to get my family tree (the chart) updated. Well I still haven’t done it yet. As I have designated this Saturday as a stay at home genealogy day it is the perfect opportunity to get this done (I will probably need Sunday as well).

My family tree has a few gaps, more through laziness than any research problems) which I need to fill. There are 14 3x great grandparents and a massive 49 4x great grandparents missing.

It would be fantastic to have a list of my 64 4x great grandparents, but I will start with something a bit more achievable for now. So by the end of the weekend I hope to have a list of my 32 3x great grandparents, and in the process I will probably have added some of those 4x great grandparents as well.
