Last week I found myself wandering a long way from home, when my wife and I spent a few days in Scotland, in the capital city Edinburgh.
The biggest surprise here is that it was largely a genealogy free holiday. We did poke our heads through the door at the ScotlandsPeople Centre, but only so I could have a look around their gift shop. Sadly I didn’t have any research to do whilst we were up there, although I do need to do some research further south nearer the border.
In fact there is another family connection just south of the border at Berwick-upon-Tweed which was one of the places we passed through on our eleven hour coach journey home. Perhaps one day I will return to do a bit of exploring and researching in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
It was the first time I had been to Scotland and we had a fantastic few days, exploring the city and taking a coach trip into the highlands. Despite the lack of genealogy, there was quite a lot of walking (lots of steps which I wasn’t expecting) and unexpected encounter with another trig point, with stunning views.
