An article over at the Financial Times website entitled Family History holds the key the the Friends Reunited deal gives an interesting view of the recent sale of the Friends Reunited Group and genealogy data providers around the world.
The article reckons that Genes Reunited was the key factor for the purchase of the Friends Reunited Group by DC Thomson announced this week. Personally I think the future for the Friends Reunited site itself is looking very bleak due to the dominance of Facebook and Twitter (but please don’t get me started on social networking).
It is interesting to see the small part we genealogists play in a market that is estimated to be worth £50m a year. It makes those few pounds I pay for 1911 census images for example, seem like a drop in the ocean!
