The March 2009 National Archives email newsletter announces two new datasets available via their DocumentsOnline service.
Firstly, there are the Royal Marine service registers dating from 1842 to 1936, now indexed, searchable and downloadable (for a charge) at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/royalmarines.asp
Secondly, we have the World War Two Merchant Shipping Movement Cards, again indexed, searchable and downloadable (for a charge) from the National Archives website http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/bt389.asp
So a great time for those with naval connections in your family tree, if you have ancestors in the Marines or who served aboard merchant ships during WW2 then check these two new releases out. Sadly, the vast majority of my ancestors were firmly rooted on dry land!
